The Purple Queen Anthias is a delicate planktivorous reef fish native to the Indo-Pacific, typically inhabiting outer reef slopes and deep drop-offs with strong currents. A minimum tank size of 100–180 gallons is recommended when keeping groups, as they naturally form harems consisting of one male and several females. Ideal water parameters are 72–78°F, salinity 1.020–1.025, and pH 8.1–8.4 with strong flow and excellent water quality. Their diet consists of zooplankton, copepods, mysis shrimp, and other small meaty foods, and they require frequent daily feedings to thrive. Due to their sensitive nature, demanding feeding schedule, and difficulty acclimating, this species is considered Expert Only and is exempt from livestock health guarantees.
