The Clown Triggerfish, Balistoides conspicillum, is a large and striking marine fish known for its bold black body covered with white spots and a vivid yellow and white pattern on the face and fins. It requires a minimum tank size of 250 gallons, with salinity 1.023–1.025, pH 8.1–8.4, and temperature 75–80°F (24–27°C). Carnivorous and powerful-jawed, it feeds on meaty foods such as shrimp, squid, clams, and fish, and may also consume crustaceans and other hard-shelled invertebrates. This species can be aggressive and territorial, especially toward smaller or similar-shaped fish, so it should be kept with large, robust tankmates. The Clown Triggerfish requires plenty of rockwork for hiding and territory, along with open swimming space and strong filtration due to its size and feeding habits. This is a Hard species, best suited for experienced aquarists who can manage its temperament and tank requirements.
