The Blacktip Reef Shark, Carcharhinus melanopterus, is a sleek and active reef shark known for the distinctive black tips on its fins. It requires a minimum tank size of 1000 gallons, with salinity 1.023–1.025, pH 8.1–8.4, and temperature 75–82°F (24–28°C). Carnivorous, it feeds on meaty foods such as fish, shrimp, squid, and other seafood. Blacktip Reef Sharks are active swimmers and need ample open space along with strong filtration to maintain water quality. This is an EXPERT-ONLY species due to its large adult size, high activity level, and sensitivity to tank conditions, and it is exempt from any guarantees.
