The Spotted Sweetlips, Plectorhinchus chaetodonoides, is a large and striking marine fish, especially known for its dramatic black spots on a silvery body as a juvenile, which fade into a more muted adult pattern. It requires a minimum tank size of 250 gallons, with salinity 1.023–1.025, pH 8.1–8.4, and temperature 75–80°F (24–27°C). Carnivorous and active, it feeds on meaty foods such as shrimp, squid, clams, and fish, and may accept high-quality marine pellets. This species is generally peaceful with similarly sized tankmates but can be territorial toward smaller fish. Spotted Sweetlips need plenty of rockwork for hiding, ample open swimming space, and strong filtration due to their large size and active feeding habits. This is a Hard species, recommended for experienced aquarists who can meet its size and care requirements.
