The Bicolor Anthias is a vibrant planktivorous reef fish native to the Indo-Pacific, commonly found along outer reef slopes and drop-offs where strong currents bring plankton-rich water. A minimum tank size of 100–180 gallons is recommended, particularly when keeping groups, as they naturally form harems consisting of one male and several females. Ideal water parameters are 72–78°F, salinity 1.020–1.025, and pH 8.1–8.4 with strong water movement and excellent filtration. Bicolor Anthias are carnivorous planktivores, feeding on zooplankton and small crustaceans, and should be offered frequent feedings of mysis shrimp, copepods, brine shrimp, and finely chopped marine foods. Due to their sensitive nature, high feeding requirements, and difficulty acclimating, this species is considered Expert Only and is exempt from livestock health guarantees.
